Heute for soprano and orchestra (2005/6)
The world into which Larcher and the texts of his contemporary Alois Hotschnig lead the listener is gloomy and claustrophobic. Halting messages from the hell of loneliness and suffocating oppressiveness speak of emotional glaciation, closed loops of repetition, and visions of death. Larcher sets this nightmarish scenario into highly suggestive, broad swaths of sound which simultaneously persevere in a frozen inertia and restlessly pant their way forwards.
